Day 1: La Paz
Arrival in La Paz, reception and transfer to the
4* El Rey Hotel.
Day 2: La Paz
After breakfast, a city tour of La Paz. With its own unique
topography containing few flat areas and protected by its
eternal guardian, the snow peak of Ilimani (6402m), La Paz
houses the seat of government of Bolivia. A visit to the Plaza
Murillo (with its presidential palace, national congress and
metropolitan cathedral), its famous witches market and a choice
of fine museums. With many interesting museums to visit, choose
between the National Museum of Art, The Ethnographic and Folklore
Museum and The Museo Tambo Quirquincho (old fashioned dresses
and silverware amongst others). On Calle Jaen, a beautiful
colonial street, there are four museums which may all be visited
one after another. These are: The Precious Metals Museum,
The Casa de Murillo, The Litoral Boliviano or Military Museum
and the Juan de Vargas Museum; there is even a Coca museum.
A visit will also be made to the Valley of the Moon before
returning to your hotel.
Day 3: La Paz - Rurrenabaque
After breakfast, transfer to the airport for the
flight to Rurrenabaque, located on the banks of the Beni River.
Transfer to Hotel Safari. After lunch, visit to the town or
just relax. Dinner and overnight in Hotel Safari. Day 4: Rurrenabaque - Chalalan
After breakfast, we head towards Chalalan Lodge in
motorized canoes, which is approximately five hours up the
Tuichi river. Along the way you will have an excellent opportunity
to spot for wildlife on the river and the surrounding rainforest.
It is home to many bird species. The journey will take you
through Bullet Canyon before arriving at the trailhead on
Tuichi river and Chalalan Lodge. A half-hour hike through
the forest with a local guide on the trail will introduce
you to the rainforest and bring you to Chalalan lodge. Lunch
upon arrival. In the afternoon, travel by canoe on Chalalan
Lagoon and perhaps hike on one of the numerous trails. Dinner
before a night excursion in search of nocturnal animals. Overnight
at Chalalan Lodge.
Day 5: Chalalan - Rayamayo - Chalalan
After breakfast, embark on an early morning hike along the
Silbador trail. Head towards the Rayamayo River to view the
birds and other wildlife. Continue on the Mutun and Anta trails
that will lead you back to the lodge in time for lunch. The
afternoon is free for you to enjoy the beauty of Madidi. Canoe
trips on the lagoon are always an option for bird watching.
Dinner and a night excursion. Overnight in Chalalan.
Day 6: Chalalan - Eslabon River - Chalalan
After breakfast, we hike the Paraba Trail bordering Laguna
Chalalan. We traverse the rainforest in search of nesting
macaws in the tall palm trees. After exploring the rainforest,
we cross the Rayamayo River and join the Marimono trail to
the Eslabon River. After lunch, hike on a seldom-used trail
towards the foothills of the Eslabon Mountain range. We should
see families of Marimonos (spider monkeys) that live in the
area as well as other mammals and birds. Return to Chalalan
Lodge for dinner and a night outing. Overnight in Chalalan.
Day 7: Chalalan - Rurrenabaque
Late morning departure back to Rurrenabaque. Overnight
in Hotel Safari.
Day 8: Rurrenabaque - Pampas
Departure from Rurrenabaque by 4x4 jeep, driving
northeast for approximately 3½ hours to Caracol Lodge
near the Yacuma River. After lunch, boarding of the dugout
canoes on the Yacuma River and travel upriver looking for
dolphins, monkeys, capybara, turtles and a great variety of
bird life. Return to the lodge for dinner and overnight. Possibly
a night hike in search of caiman and anaconda.
Day 9: Pampas
Morning hike to search for anaconda and other wildlife
including pink dolphins and capybara. Lunch followed by a
short walk to look for rheas, anteaters and monkeys. Possibly
a nighttime boat trip to observe caiman and other nocturnal
wildlife.
Day 10: Pampas - Rurrenabaque
Morning wildlife viewing. Return to Rurrenabaque,
arriving in the late afternoon. Overnight in Hotel Safari.
Day 11: Rurrenabaque - La Paz
After breakfast, transfer to the airport for the
return flight to La Paz and onward for your flight home. |
